Warning: my brother in law swore I needed a 100W brick for my phone, here's what actually happened
My brother in law is a bit of a tech guy, and when I got my new phone last month he told me flat out that I had to buy a 100W charger or it would charge slow and ruin the battery. So I paid $45 for this big brick at a store in Denver, and my phone got warm and still took almost two hours to hit full. Then I looked up the spec sheet and saw my phone only pulls 25W max, so that extra power was doing nothing. Now the cheap 30W block that came in the box charges it in the same time and runs cooler. Has anyone else been talked into a charger way bigger than their device can even use?
Did you ever go back and check what the charging speed actually showed on your phone screen with that 100W brick plugged in? The reason I ask is that most phones will only pull what they need, and the brick just sits there at a fraction of its rating, so you basically paid for headroom you can never touch. Your brother in law probably meant well, but matching the charger to the phone's max wattage is the whole game, and anything above that is just wasted cash.
