Thought those cheap braided USB-C cords from the gas station were junk, one survived a full year in my truck
I used to laugh at the 6 dollar braided cables sitting in a jar next to the register at the Shell on Route 9. Everyone in here knows the drill, you buy a cheap cord and it stops charging in 3 weeks or starts only working when you hold it at a weird angle. So when my brother handed me one of those no name braided ones back in February of last year I almost tossed it in the glove box and forgot about it. But I plugged it into my truck's port and that thing has been getting yanked, stepped on, and baked in summer heat for over 12 months now and it still snaps in tight with no wiggle. Meanwhile the 25 dollar name brand cord I babied in my bag died after 4 months with a frayed end. I'm not saying all cheap cords are good, half the ones in that jar are trash, but something about that specific braided build with the little strain relief nub actually holds up. Has anyone else had a random no name cord outlast their fancy one, or did I just get lucky with one good unit out of a bad batch?
Isn't that always how it goes though? My sister had the exact same thing happen with a cheap cord from a drugstore, and I've seen plenty of fancy ones bite the dust early too. It really bugs me when the expensive stuff breaks right when you trust it most, like a nice cable should at least outlast the gas station one by a mile. It sounds like you just found one of the few good ones mixed in with the junk, so maybe treat that thing nice now that you know what you've got. I'd be a little bummed too, honestly, since paying more should mean it lasts, not the other way around.
