That YouTube guy said tilt the plug, never listen again
Some reviewer with 500k subs swore tilting your USB-C plug at an angle stops port wear. I tried it for 3 weeks on my phone and laptop, and now my $40 Anker cable has a bent pin and my tablet port feels loose. He never mentioned it only works if your cable has a certain shield design, which most cheap ones don't. I took it apart yesterday and the internal solder joint cracked clean off from the sideways pressure. Has anyone else wrecked a cable following those pro tips, or am I just the only dumb one here?
Three weeks is about 20 days longer than I would've lasted before giving up on that trick. So congrats on the commitment I guess. Tilting the plug is one of those tips that sounds smart until you picture what's actually happening inside the port, it's basically levering a tiny solder joint with your whole hand every time you plug in. That reviewer probably got a free cable from a company whose plugs have a reinforced collar, so of course it worked for him. The rest of us are out here bending pins like idiots because some guy with a ring light said so.
