That $3 flat cable kept frying my phone, my friend's one comment changed my whole setup
I had this cheap flat USB-C cord from a gas station in Columbus, Ohio, and every time I used it in bed, my phone would lose charge instead of gaining it. After three nights of waking up to a dead battery, my buddy Sam watched me plug it in and said, "you're just fighting the resistance, stop blaming the port." He pointed out the wire gauge was way too thin for the 5 amp draw I needed for fast charging. I switched to a braided 10 foot cord from a brand I actually recognized, and now it holds a charge perfectly. But now I'm wondering, how many of us are using mismatched cables for high wattage charging without realizing it? Has anyone else had a cheap cable that seemed fine but was secretly throttling power to your device?
