One comment about my cable coil habit made me rethink everything

I used to wrap my USB-C cables super tight around my hand before tossing them in my bag. Thought it looked neat. Then a guy at a repair shop in Tulsa saw me do it and said "you're killing that wire, man, the internal strands hate tight bends." He showed me his own cable, all loose figure eights. I shrugged it off until my new 6 footer died in like 3 weeks. Switched to loose loops and a velcro strap, same brand, been going 4 months now. Anyone else get told something that sounded like nonsense until the cable proved them right?
