Lost 3 hours and $45 on an Anker cable that fell apart

Bought a braided Anker cable last spring cause the reviews were solid. The connector housing cracked after like 5 weeks, turns out it was a fake from a reseller on eBay. Took me 2 weeks of back and forth with support to get a refund. Anyone else get burned by counterfeit chargers or cables on marketplace sites? How do you spot the fakes before ordering?

Seems like everything now has a fake version and you can't tell until it breaks.
