Didn't know power banks lose 20% capacity just sitting in a drawer

Looked up why my 2 year old Anker died after 15 minutes of charging my phone, and apparently lithium cells degrade even when you don't use them. Who keeps a backup bank around if it's going to rot anyway? Has anyone else found their spare power bank useless after months of storage?
