Airport security killed my cable, do I pack spares or go braided?

Got waved through at O'Hare last month and my cheap cable got mangled in the bin during the x-ray shuffle. I always carried one backup, but it died the same week. Is it better to buy a tougher braided line once, or just accept cables are disposable and pack three cheap ones?
