My neighbor Rick swore by the "one sheet" method for hanging drywall, and now my ceiling has a crack shaped like Florida
I was patching a 4x8 section of my garage ceiling last month and my neighbor Rick, who claims he built houses for 20 years, told me to just slap one big sheet up there and screw it in from the middle out. He said it would save me a seam and look cleaner. Well, I did it his way, and about a week later I heard a pop and now there's a 3 foot crack running right across the middle. Did I screw this up myself or was Rick just full of it? Any tips on what I should do next before it gets worse?

Blame Rick on this one, you don't hang a ceiling from the middle out with a single sheet. Middle first traps the stress and it has nowhere to go so it pops. Pull that sheet down and redo it with screws working from the center outward only after you've got the edges locked in.
