Just realized the plumber in Reno who laughed at my bucket fix was right about the wax ring
Toilet started leaking at the base back in March, so I shoved a bucket under it and called it done for 3 weeks. The plumber came out, took one look at my setup, and just goes "you're mopping up your own floor at 2am, huh." He swapped the $8 wax ring in about 10 minutes. My carpet pad under that toilet was soaked through and cost me $140 to replace. Why do we all try to outsmart a leak instead of just pulling the toilet?
