Showerthought: a sales guy in Dayton asked if our backup link was 'actually tested' and it split the room
Last month a rep from a regional ISP sat down with us at the shop in Dayton and asked one question that hung in the air: 'when did you last pull the plug on your main line and see if the backup actually takes over?' Half the guys want a bonded setup with automatic failover at $180 a month, and the other half say manual switch to a hotspot is good enough for a 6 person office. He pointed out most folks pay for redundancy they never test, and we realized ours hadn't been checked since install 14 months ago. I get the argument for saving cash, but we lost a full day of invoicing when our cable dropped in April. So do you test your failover on a schedule or just trust the provider's word? Curious what downtime actually costs other small shops around here.
