Our shop's 12Mbps DSL kept dropping calls, fixed it with a $40 router swap in Reno last month
We run a 6 person tax office in Reno and our DSL was crapping out 3 or 4 times a day during filing season. Clients on hold would just get cut off. I called the provider twice and they blamed our wiring.
A buddy who does IT for a dental office down the street said the modem they give you is the weak link, not the line. I swapped in a $40 router from Best Buy and set it to do the dialing instead of the old box. Dropped calls went away the same afternoon. I couldn't believe it was that dumb.
Now I'm wondering if the line speed is still too slow at 12 down. Any of you ever bump up to fiber with a small crew and actually see the difference on VoIP? Or is the router the only thing that matters here?
