Hot take: I ran my whole shop on a $40 home router for a year and had no clue
I run a small print shop in Boise with 6 machines and 4 computers, and I always thought our internet issues were just Comcast being Comcast. Last Tuesday a tech came out for the third time and asked where our router was, then pointed at the little $40 box on the shelf and kind of laughed. Turns out that thing was rated for maybe 10 devices and we had 23 on it at once, so every time a job hit the printer it was fighting for bandwidth with the card reader. Swapped to a real business router with a backup LTE line and our upload times dropped from 40 minutes to 6. Anyone else find out their whole operation was running on gear meant for a studio apartment?
Reading that the card reader was fighting the printer for bandwidth actually made me wince. Twenty three devices on a box built for ten is wild, and you were just sitting there blaming Comcast while every single job crawled. I can't believe the first two techs didn't even look at the router before the third guy spotted it. Going from 40 minutes to 6 on uploads is a huge jump, and honestly it sounds like you got lucky nothing worse happened with all those payment transactions getting choked.
