My coworker Jen called my bullet journal a 'glorified to-do list'

She said it right in the breakroom while I was setting up my weekly spread. I got defensive at first but later I realized she was kind of right. I spend so much time making it look pretty with washi tape and doodles that I barely use it to actually track anything. Has anyone else had to strip back to just the basics and see better results?

Call it what it is, it's just a to-do list with some stickers slapped on it. People get so caught up in making things look good they forget the whole point is to actually get stuff done. I mean, who cares if your weekly spread has perfect lettering or matching colors if you're not checking off any of the tasks? It's like buying a fancy toolbox and then never using a single wrench. Maybe Jen had a point, but it's not like it's a huge deal either. You can just keep your regular to-do list on a scrap of paper and save the fancy stuff for when you actually have the extra time.

Wait, so you're telling me someone actually defended the whole bullet journal craze as something more than just pretty procrastination? Are we really pretending that color-coded trackers and sticker collections are somehow getting the dishes done or the taxes filed? I mean, sure, it's a hobby for some people, but let's not act like perfect handwriting equals productivity.
