$32 for a cheap stencil set burned me, so I went back to graph paper for my layouts
I bought a $32 plastic stencil set from a craft store in Denver last month because I thought it would make my weekly spreads faster. It actually made everything worse. The slots were too narrow for my pens and the corners smeared, so I spent more time fixing lines than drawing them. After 3 weeks of fighting it, I went back to a plain ruler and graph paper and my layouts look cleaner. A friend at a local journal meetup told me she spent $45 on templates once and ditched them too. I'm curious if anyone here actually sticks with stencils long term or if they all end up in a drawer.
Man, I feel this. I saw a whole thread on a bullet journal subreddit where people were saying the same thing, that stencils seem great until you actually use them daily. One person said they only keep theirs for stuff like date boxes and habit trackers, the simple straight stuff. The curved corners and lettering templates are what usually end up in the junk drawer. So you are definitely not alone on this one.
