Spent 3 hours fighting my cable mess, then found a $4 fix at the hardware store
Last Saturday I finally got fed up with the rat's nest behind my desk, so I pulled every cable out and laid them all on the floor. I tried zip ties first and they made it worse because I had to cut and redo them every time I moved something. Then my neighbor mentioned gutter downspout clips from the hardware store, and four bucks later I had ten of them screwed to the back of my desk. Now every cable snaps in and out in a second when I swap parts, and I can actually see the floor behind my tower. What's your go-to cheap hardware store item that ended up working better than the actual PC stuff?
Grabbed a pack of those adhesive cable clips for maybe three bucks and they have outlasted every fancy cable sleeve I ever bought. Velcro strips from the fabric aisle are another one, way cheaper than the PC branded ties and you can reopen them a hundred times. My whole setup is basically hardware store junk holding it together at this point and it works better than the stuff sold as gaming gear. That downspout clip idea is smart though, I might grab some next time I am in there for the screw in kind since the adhesive ones keep popping off my desk.
