Pushed my luck on a 10 year old PSU and it took my whole build with it

Warning to anyone running an old power supply just because it still turns on. Heard a pop Tuesday night, smelled burnt plastic, and now my GPU and board are dead from a $40 part I kept putting off replacing. Anyone got a good way to test a PSU before it cooks everything, or do I just eat the cost and start over?

So how many times did you walk past that PSU at the store and say "eh, it's still working"? Ten years is like a dog in people years, that thing lived a full life and then took everybody down with it. Honestly the pop was just it saying goodbye. Bad part is the PSU almost never kills itself alone, it likes company. Next round grab a cheap tester or just swap it every five or six years, way cheaper than a new board.
