Built my own bike rack for the truck bed for $70 after the $400 store one rattled loose on I-40
Honestly I almost dropped the cash on a fancy aluminum rack last spring but my buddy talked me into hitting the hardware store instead. We grabbed some 1.5 inch square tubing and a can of bed liner spray and cut everything in my shop over a Saturday. The store rack a guy I ride with bought lasted 5 months before the mounts wallowed out and it started clunking on every bump. Mine has 14 months on it now including a run to Flagstaff and back with three bikes and it has not moved a hair. The big difference was welding the joints instead of bolting them together, those bolts were always the weak point. Ngl I get why people buy off the shelf but has anyone else had a rack or carrier fail right where the hardware meets the frame?
