Buddy looked at my cable runs and asked why I was hiding from the wires
Last spring I finished a build in a Corsair 4000D and zip tied everything behind the panel so tight you could not see a single cable through the glass, and I thought it looked clean. A guy at the local Micro Center build night looked at it for about 10 seconds and said "man, you built a blackout box, nobody can tell you did anything back there," which kinda stung because he was right. Now I route the 24 pin and GPU cables with a little slack and a clean bend so the work shows, and I am wondering if anyone else went from hiding cables to actually showing them off.
That Micro Center guy was not wrong but he was also kinda harsh about it. I did the same thing in my 4000D build two years back, stuffed every single cable back there so tight that you could not even see the fan headers, and yeah it looked fine but it also looked like nothing. Then I swapped to a white cable kit and started running the 24 pin with a soft curve right across the grommet, and now people actually stop and look at it. There is something nice about letting the work show instead of treating it like a dirty secret. Hiding it all felt safe but it also felt kind of empty once I changed it up.
