Still don't get the hype about custom water cooling loops

I was at a LAN party last month in Denver and watched a guy spend 6 hours draining his loop just to swap a GPU. Meanwhile my air cooler setup took maybe 15 minutes total. The tube runs looked clean, sure, but when a fitting started weeping on his 4090 I just don't see how the risk is worth it for a few degrees cooler. Has anyone here gone back to air after dealing with a leak?

My buddy in our local PC building group had a custom loop fail on his 3090 Ti about a year ago. A fitting o-ring just gave out overnight and killed the card and his PSU too. He switched back to a Thermalright Peerless Assassin air cooler after that and said he'd never go back. The temps went from about 55C under load to 68C, but he says the peace of mind is worth every extra degree.
