Spent 4 hours chasing a no-boot on my new build and it was one stupid standoff
So I finally put together my new rig last weekend, Ryzen 7 with a 4070 Super in a Fractal North case, and it POSTed fine on the bench test. Then I screwed everything into the case, hit the power button, and nothing. Fans spun for half a second and died. I spent 4 hours swapping RAM sticks, reseating the GPU twice, pulling the front panel headers and shorting the pins with a screwdriver, even flashed the BIOS with a USB stick thinking that was it. Around hour 3 I pulled the board back out and noticed one brass standoff in the middle of the tray that I never used had a little metal burr on top touching the back of the PCB. No screw in it, just the standoff sitting there shorting the board to the case. Took it out with pliers, dropped the board back in, and it booted first try like nothing ever happened. The whole time I was convinced I had a dead board or a bent CPU pin. Anyone else ever lose an afternoon to one tiny piece of metal that should not have been there?
