My custom loop went from clear to dark green in 8 months flat
I thought I cleaned my parts good enough but after swapping out some tubing I found gunk all in my CPU block fins. What ended up causing it for you - growth or just plasticizer leeching from cheap soft tubing?

You want to get in there with an old toothbrush and some warm water with a drop of dish soap. Scrub the fins gently - that green slime breaks up pretty easy once you hit it with a little elbow grease. After you rinse it all out, run some distilled water with a bit of white vinegar through the loop for an hour before you put the good coolant back in. That should kill off any spores still hiding in the radiators.

8 months is just the right amount of time for the forbidden green Kool-Aid to brew in your loop. Sounds like you caught it before it turned into a full on swamp situation though. Plasticizer leeching usually gives you that weird white dusty look, so you probably got the organic growth special. Clean those fins with a soft toothbrush and some vinegar, that green gunk hates it.
