Guy at the Dallas Micro Center pointed at my fan cables and said 'that's why your temps are bad'
Last Saturday I drove to the Micro Center in Dallas to grab a $13 fan splitter and this older guy behind the parts counter asked what I was building. I showed him a pic of my case and he just pointed at my front intake fans and said 'your cables are blocking half the airflow, that's why your temps are bad.' I got home, rerouted the fan wires behind the motherboard tray and along the top edge, and my CPU dropped 6 degrees at idle. I know that sounds made up but I checked it three times with the same room temp. Anyone else had a store employee spot something dumb you'd been staring past for months?
Reminds me of when I bought a used truck and the guy at the parts store asked why I was getting a new air filter. Told him my old one looked fine, he pointed out it was installed upside down, the seal was doing nothing. I had owned that truck two years and never once thought about which way the filter faced. Flipped it the right way, and the thing stopped bogging down on the highway, which I had blamed on the transmission the whole time. Sometimes you stare at something so long you stop actually seeing it.
