Spent three hours trying to cancel a gym membership that took two minutes to sign up for

I walked into Planet Fitness in Denver last January and was out the door in under two minutes, but when I tried to cancel online last week it kept rerouting me to a page that said "call us" and then the phone line hung up on me twice. After driving there and waiting in line for 45 minutes, the guy at the desk just clicked a button and said "done" like it was nothing. Has anyone else had a simple subscription turn into a whole afternoon project?

Dude my buddy had the same thing with some app he signed up for. Took him like 10 mins to sign up but then he found out you could only cancel by mailing a physical letter to their office in some random state lol. He just ended up blocking the payments through his bank instead.

Same move worked for me with a gym membership. Signed up online in two minutes, cancellation required certified mail to some P.O. Box in Idaho. Blocked the card and never heard from them again.
