Showerthought: I found a $50 bill in my winter coat and it made me rethink my whole cash system.
I was putting away my heavy coat for the season and found cash in three different pockets. I added it up and it was over $120 I had just forgotten about. I realized I was treating cash like it didn't count in my budget because it wasn't in my bank account. Now I keep a jar at home and put any cash I get right into it so I can actually track it. Does anyone else have a simple way to stop cash from just disappearing?

But isn't that just making more work for yourself?

Yeah @ivan_perez, I used to think that too.

Three weeks ago I started keeping a simple log of every extra step I take. Just a notebook next to my desk. Turns out I was spending almost 45 minutes a day doing things twice because I skipped a small setup step. That really hit me. So yeah, it feels like more work upfront but it's saved me time later. I get why you'd think that way though, I was right there with you.
