PSA: my $5 impulse buy at the Dollar Tree checkout line actually worked
I grabbed a 4 pack of those cheap freezer bags at the Dollar Tree in Boise last month just to hit the card minimum. I started portioning my Sunday chili into them instead of the $12 containers I used to buy, and my grocery bill dropped by almost $40 in 3 weeks. Turns out the bags stack flat and I quit tossing half my leftovers. Anyone else find a random cheap thing that beat the fancy version?
Cheap bags are fine until they are not. I used those thin ones for chili once and came back to a freezer full of red ice and a busted shelf. The zipper split right along the seam. You save $40 now but wait until one leaks all over your meat and you gotta toss everything. Fancy containers are not just markup, they hold up to heat and cold without turning into confetti. Do what works for you but I would double bag those things or you are rolling dice every Sunday.
