Overheard a cashier say something that changed my grocery budget forever

I was at Aldi last Tuesday and heard the cashier tell the lady in front of me that she saves $40 a week just by buying the marked-down meat first thing in the morning. I started doing it too, now I grab whatever's on clearance right when the store opens and freeze it that day. My grocery total dropped from $85 to $55 a week, no joke. Has anyone else found a weird store-specific trick that actually stuck?

Fair enough but I've tried that and the marked-down meat at my store is always gone by 8am. Plus I'm not convinced freezing it right away keeps the taste the same after a week or two.

So when you do find the clearance meat, do you actually repackage it or just toss the whole package in the freezer as-is? Because I started doing the same thing but I noticed some packages get icy freezer burn after a couple weeks, especially the ground beef. I'm wondering if there's a trick to wrapping it better or if that's just the price you pay for saving money. Do you trim the fat off before freezing too or leave it on for flavor?
