My grocery bill dropped $40 a week after I stopped buying pre-chopped vegetables
I was spending like $60 on produce alone every trip and half of it went bad before I used it... Then I noticed pre-cut mushrooms cost triple the whole ones. Started chopping everything myself on Sunday nights and now I waste almost nothing. Who else has saved money just by doing a little extra work at home?

Huh, I thought the savings came from buying the whole veggies and them lasting longer.

I mean, the savings are real but they usually come from not paying for the processing and packaging more than the shelf life thing. Whole veggies aren't necessarily lasting longer, they just don't go bad as fast as pre-cut stuff that's already been chopped up and sitting in a bag. Maybe it's just me but I find I still have to plan pretty carefully to use up a whole head of cauliflower before it starts getting weird, you know?
