I used to think the dollar store was a waste of time for groceries

I stopped at the Dollar Tree in Springfield last week for some cleaning stuff and walked down the food aisle. I saw they had name brand pasta sauce for $1.25, which is a full dollar less than my usual store. I grabbed a few jars and some spices, and my bill was under ten bucks. Has anyone else found specific food items that are actually a good deal at those places?

Their frozen veggies are solid too, the 12-ounce bags of green beans or mixed vegetables are always a buck twenty-five.

That point about checking dates, @wells.morgan, is why I feel like every "deal" comes with a little homework now.

Check the dates on everything though, right? I grabbed some of those sauces too but one was close to its date. @loganhart, with the frozen stuff, do you ever worry about freezer burn or is the turnover pretty quick at your store? I'm trying to figure out if the savings are worth it for things that go bad faster, like their block cheese or that shelf-stable milk.
