I thought the 'cash envelope' thing was just for extreme couponers, but after trying it for groceries this month, I actually spent $127 less.

My sister made me use labeled envelopes for food, gas, and fun money, and seeing the physical cash disappear made me stop buying random snacks at the checkout line. Has anyone else had a specific category where cash just works better for them?

Totally get what @johnson.ryan means about gas. For me, it's the "fun money" envelope that changed everything. I used to just tap my card for little things like a coffee or a cheap app purchase and never feel it. Now with cash, once that twenty is gone for the week, it's gone. It stopped me from buying a third overpriced craft beer last Friday because I literally didn't have the bills left. Makes you pick what you really want to spend on.

Nah, cash just doesn't work for me at all. I'd lose the envelope or forget to get more from the bank. I put a weekly limit on my debit card for that stuff instead. Seeing the number drop in my banking app gives me the same "stop spending" feeling without the hassle.

Gas is the big one for me! Watching that envelope get thin halfway through the month made me plan my trips way better.
