I finally cut my own hair instead of paying for a trim
My barber raised his price to $35 plus tip, so I was looking at close to $45 every six weeks. I watched a few videos, bought a decent pair of clippers for $30, and gave it a shot last Sunday. The first try was a bit choppy around the ears, but after a second pass it looked fine. I figure the clippers will pay for themselves in two cuts, and I'm saving over $300 a year now. It's not a perfect salon job, but for a basic guy's cut, it works. Has anyone else tried this and found a good method for the back?

Getting the back even is the real test. My bathroom mirror setup is a mess. I ended up using my phone camera on video mode, propped it up on the sink, and just turned around slowly. It was a weird angle but it showed me the spots I missed. Still took a few tries to not look like a hack job.

Hold up - the phone trick works but you gotta set it up right. Put the phone on a shelf or stack of books at the same height as your head, not down on the sink. That low angle makes the back of your head look huge and your neck look weird. You need the camera level with where your eyes would be if you turned around. Pro tip from too many failed haircuts: use the timer setting so you have both hands free to mess with the hair.
