Finally tracked down where my grocery money was disappearing to after 4 months
I kept wondering why my food budget was shot every month even though I was meal planning. Turns out I was buying $12 worth of snacks and drinks at the gas station every other day without thinking about it. That added up to around $180 a month just on impulse buys. I put a small cooler in my car with water and granola bars and have saved $90 so far this month. Has anyone else had a random spending leak like this pop up out of nowhere?

Idk, $180 a month on gas station snacks doesn't sound that crazy honestly.

I actually read a study last year that said the average person spends around $150 a month on impulse buys at convenience stores. So $180 is a bit above that but not crazy at all. @rowan666, if you're grabbing a drink and a snack most days, that adds up fast. I know a guy who spends that much just on energy drinks alone. It's easy to hit that number when gas station stuff is priced so high now. As long as you're not going into debt for it, I don't see the big deal.
