Am I the only one who tried the envelope system with actual envelopes and found $40 I forgot about?
I pulled $200 in cash out two weeks ago and stuffed it into paper envelopes labeled gas, food, and fun, then somehow lost track of the fun one entirely. Found it last night wedged between the couch cushions with $40 still inside, which means my budgeting method accidentally became a savings method. Does anyone else hide cash from themselves like a squirrel, or am I just bad at this?
Wait so you invented a savings account with extra steps and a couch cushion interest rate? That's honestly kind of impressive. I do the same thing but with jacket pockets, found a twenty in my winter coat back in like June and felt like I won the lottery. The real problem is the envelope labeled "fun" was probably hiding from you on purpose because it knew you'd blow it all on takeout. At this point just skip the envelopes and start checking under the couch every two weeks, that seems to be where the real money lives.
