The hostel in Barcelona that made me rethink packing cubes forever

Last summer I was staying at this hostel in Barcelona called Kabul, you know the one right on La Rambla. I had my stuff in those typical compression packing cubes everyone uses, but I saw this older guy from Australia just using these cheap mesh laundry bags from the dollar store. He sorted his clothes by outfit and just tossed them in, said he paid like 3 bucks for a pack of six. I laughed at first but then I realized he never had to dig through anything, he just grabbed a bag and went to the shower. Meanwhile I was unrolling and rerolling my cubes every single day trying to fit dirty clothes back in. I switched to mesh bags after that trip and it cut my packing time in half, plus I can see what's inside without opening them. Has anyone else found a weird cheap hack that works better than the fancy travel gear?

Wait is Kabul the one right on La Rambla? I thought that was the bigger one, Kabul is a few streets off idk maybe I'm wrong. But yeah you're totally right about mesh bags being better than cubes, I do the same thing now with cheap produce bags from the grocery store haha.

Yeah that produce bag trick is genius, I started using the mesh ones from IKEA that come in a three pack for like four bucks and they work even better since they have the drawstring closure. The best part is you can throw them right in the washing machine with your clothes so you're not wasting time separating stuff later. Honestly makes me wonder why people drop thirty bucks on branded cubes when dollar store bags do the same thing with way less fuss.
