Spent 45 minutes looking for a cheap hostel in Paris because Booking.com hid the real fees
Everybody raves about using apps to find budget beds, but my experience last month was a mess. I found a place listed at 22 euros a night, went through the whole checkout, and then a 15 euro 'resort fee' popped up at the end. That's almost double the price. It took me way longer than it should have to scroll through five different sites just to compare the actual costs. Ended up booking directly through the hostel's own site for 28 euros flat, no hidden surprises. Why do these platforms make it so hard to see the real price up front? Has anyone else run into this with other cities?

Booking directly is almost always the way to go. Isn't it wild how much extra they tack on?

That 15 euro resort fee is such a scam, especially in Paris where "resort" makes no sense. Did you actually look at the breakdown of what that fee supposedly covered, or was it just a straight money grab? I swear Booking.com adds that garbage specifically for hostels in tourist heavy areas because they know people are desperate. Would love to know if the hostel themselves confirmed the fee existed or if it was pure platform BS.
