Shoutout to the guy at the hostel in Prague who showed me the grocery store meal hack
Last month I was in Prague for 5 days and spent maybe $30 total on food. This guy from Australia in my dorm room told me to skip restaurants entirely and just hit the local supermarket chain every morning. I got bread, cheese, some veg, and a yogurt for like $3. Then dinner was a rotisserie chicken from the same place for maybe $5. Saved me so much cash for actual stuff like tours and beer. Has anyone else done the whole grocery store thing on a trip instead of eating out?

Why waste a trip eating cold bread when you can just enjoy real local food?

@mason283 but is eating a $15 plate of bland pasta really "real local food" though? Most grocery stores in Europe actually carry local stuff too, like that bakery bread and cheese straight from the region. I did the same thing in Budapest last year and probably saved enough for an extra 3 days of travel, plus I got to try local yogurt brands and sausages I never would have found at a restaurant. What's wrong with mixing in some self-serve meals when you're on a strict budget?
