Rant: Got my whole family to agree on a budget camping trip finally.
Packing our own food and using national park passes cut the cost in half.

Getting everyone on board for a camping trip is a HUGE win, congrats on that. Just a note, national park passes are great but they don't always cut costs exactly in half for one trip. The pass covers entrance fees, but if you only go once, the savings might not be that big. Packing your own food is probably where you're seeing the most savings honestly. Budget trips are still a smart way to make memories without spending too much.

But is saving every last dollar really the point here? People get so hung up on cutting costs they forget camping is supposed to be fun. A few bucks on a park pass or some snacks seems like a weird thing to stress over. Are we trying to save money or just win some imaginary budget award?

My last camping budget was so tight I think the squirrels felt sorry for me.
