Rant: $15 hostel in Bangkok had bedbugs and I learned my lesson

Stayed at Lucky House on Khao San Road last month. Cheapest place I could find. Woke up with bites all over my arms. Manager just shrugged and said "you paid for cheap." Now I always check hostel reviews for the word "clean" not just "cheap." Anyone got a go-to budget spot in Bangkok that's actually clean?

300 baht a night and you're surprised about bedbugs? I've stayed at places three times that price on Khao San and still got bitten. For real budget and clean try Sabye Hostel near the national stadium, 400 baht a night and the owner actually cares about maintenance (unlike the Lucky House crew).

Man I feel personally attacked by this because I literally just did the math and realized I've probably paid for three separate bedbug infestations on Khao San over the years (turns out my immune system is just really good at hiding the bites until I'm back home). Sabye's definitely on my list for next time though, especially if the owner actually vacuums under the beds.
