My cousin laughed at me for taking the $9 overnight bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, but who's laughing now
My cousin swore up and down that the 2am bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai for 300 baht (about $9) was a death trap and that I should just pay $45 for the flight like she does. I took the bus anyway last month and yeah, the seats were cramped and the AC was blasting, but I got there with my whole hostel budget still intact. She ended up booking the flight anyway and then her airline delayed it 6 hours, so she paid $45 to sit in an airport and arrived after me. I'm not saying overnight buses are for everyone, but paying 5x more for a flight that got her there later felt like a weird flex. Anyone else had a cheap bus or train beat out the 'safe' flight option on time and money?
