My cheap backpack zipper gave out on day two in Bangkok

It happened right after I got off the train from the airport, with all my stuff inside. I had a full day of walking planned and no time to find a proper repair shop. So I bought a pack of safety pins from a street vendor for about 30 baht (less than a dollar) and pinned the whole seam shut. It held up for the rest of the two week trip, no problem. Has anyone else had to do a quick fix like that with something more permanent than duct tape?

Ever think safety pins were just for sewing?

Actually, they were invented for holding wool shawls together.

30 baht for safety pins? That's wild, I wouldn't have guessed street vendors carry stuff like that. Did they just have them hanging with the socks and lighters or something?
