I thought checking bags was always a scam until I ran the numbers on my Denver trip
For 6 years I crammed everything into a carry on because I figured the $35 bag fee was pure waste. Then in March I flew to Denver for 9 days with my wife and we paid $70 total to check two bags, which let us bring our own snacks, sunscreen, and a cooler bag stuffed with sandwiches. We spent $38 on food that whole trip instead of the $140 we blew on airport meals and gas station runs the time we carried on only. The bag fee math only works if you actually pack the stuff you would have bought anyway. Has anyone else run the real numbers on this or am I late to something obvious?
