Hostel kitchen rule in Barcelona backfired hard on me
I stayed at this hostel in Barcelona that had a strict 'no cooking after 10 PM' rule to save energy, which I thought was dumb for budget travelers like me who want to save on meals. One night I ignored it and tried to heat up some cheap pasta at 11 PM, but the stove got so hot it tripped the breaker for the whole floor. The staff flipped out and banned me from using the kitchen for two days, so I ended up spending 40 euros on takeout instead of the 2 euros I planned. Has anyone else dealt with hostel rules that ended up costing more money than they saved?

Knew a guy who got his bag locked up overnight for eating a sandwich in the lobby.

And that's exactly how it goes nowadays. Every little thing turns into a huge rule or policy. Sandwich in the wrong spot? Lock up their bag. Coupon expired by one day? Whole transaction cancelled. Saw a woman get yelled at for putting her feet on a public bench. Five minutes later a security guard was hovering. It's like we're all just waiting to break some invisible rule nobody tells you about.
