Hostel dorm vs private room debate - heard a guy say private rooms kill the social vibe

Overheard a backpacker at a hostel in Prague say private rooms ruin the whole point of budget travel. But I sleep way better alone and still save money cooking my own meals. Which side are you on for saving cash and meeting people?

Tried mixing it up by booking a private room but then hanging out in the common areas with free earplugs for loud sleepers. Gets the best of both worlds for real.

Honestly I used to think the whole private room thing was a waste of money but this actually makes a lot of sense. Kinda changed my mind on how to do hostels.
