Found a cheap hostel in Barcelona by booking at 3am

I was stuck in Barcelona last month with no place to stay and noticed hostel prices dropped by half if I refreshed after midnight. Managed to snag a bed for just 12 euros at a place that was showing 30 euros earlier. Anyone else find last-minute deals by booking late at night?

My friend booked a Rome hostel for 8 euros doing that.

That 8 euro Rome deal is unreal. I managed something similar in Berlin last spring, refreshing Hostelworld around 2am and got a private room for what a dorm bed usually costs. Did you have to pay in cash or was card fine for your friend's booking?
