Found a $12 hostel in Budapest last week

Stayed at a place near the Jewish Quarter. Had free breakfast and a rooftop view of the Danube. Anyone else score crazy cheap beds in Eastern Europe?

That line about the pillow being a "flattened sponge" is hilarious but also kind of the point. @river182 I don't know how serious you're trying to be about this. It's nine euros. You're not expecting a memory foam pillow and a silent room heater. That's basically the price of two beers in most cities. The free vodka and good location are the real value, not the creaky bunk bed situation.

My buddy crashed at a place in Krakow for like 9 euros a night last summer. The hostel was in this old building near the main square, and they gave everyone a free shot of vodka at check-in (which, honestly, I think is just a Polish thing). He said the bunk beds were super creaky and the pillow was basically a flattened sponge, but the location made up for it. The common room had this weird mix of furniture from the 1970s and a broken foosball table. He ended up meeting a group of travelers there and they all went out for street food at 2 in the morning.
