Finally cracked the code on cheap hostels in Rome last month
I booked a dorm bed for 18 euros a night by switching my search to Tuesday mornings at 6 AM local time. Has anyone else noticed hostel prices spike on weekends?

Wait, were you booking through a mobile app or desktop? I swear I saw hostel prices jump 20% just from opening it on my phone vs laptop once. That timing trick sounds rad though, gotta try it with Paris hostels.

wait 18 euros? hold up. that's insane, i was in rome last spring and the cheapest i found was like 35 a night for a 12 person dorm with a broken AC. Tuesday at 6 am though, i never even thought about the time of day thing, i always just search whenever. that's wild that the price drops that much just from a specific search time, i bet the booking sites are running some weird algorithm that adjusts prices based on when people are normally looking. i'm trying that next time i go to barcelona.
