Compared sleeping in my truck vs a $12 motel outside El Paso

Last month on a job run from Tucson to Dallas, I figured I'd save money by crashing in my F-150 near a truck stop. Woke up at 2am with condensation dripping on my face and a stiff neck that lasted three days. The $12 motel had a lumpy bed and weird stains, but at least I got 6 hours of sleep. Has anyone else tried the truck bed mattress route and regretted it?

Missed the part where your windows need to be cracked enough to vent moisture but not enough to let in the desert cold. Had a buddy do the truck thing in Arizona and woke up with ice in his beard plus a cracked windshield from the temp swing. That $12 motel might have roaches but at least the AC kept the air dry.

The cracked windshield was probably from a rock chip or a drastic temp swing when the defroster hit the glass, not just from sleeping in it. I've done the truck camper thing for years and the trick is cracking the windows on the leeward side so you get airflow without the wind blasting in.
