Rockauto vs. junkyard parts, my parts hunting changed a lot
Used to spend every Saturday at Pull-A-Part in Columbus hunting for bits with a breaker bar. Now I just sit on my couch and order a reman alternator for $45 delivered. Has anyone else gone from digging through mud to clicking buttons?

You ever figure out the hard way that some parts just aren't worth the gamble from a junker? I had a used starter die on me three weeks after I pulled it from a flooded car, so now I only hit the yard for things like mirrors, brackets, or interior trim. For anything electrical or something that spins, I'll pay the extra few bucks and get a reman unit with a warranty. The fun of the hunt is real, but my back and my free Saturdays don't miss crawling under a rusted frame in the mud. That said, junkyards are still gold for rare clips and bolts you can't find online without paying shipping that's twice the part price. Do you still keep a list of what's worth grabbing when you do go?
