Just realized I was torquing lug nuts in a circle for years

Was doing a brake job on my 95 Civic last weekend and a buddy walked over and asked why I wasn't torquing in a star pattern. I had no clue what he meant... been doing it clockwise since I started building project cars. How many of you learned this way later than you'd like to admit?

Read somewhere that it can warp rotors if you don't do it right.

Yeah I remember hearing a buddy of mine warn about that exact thing. He said if you blast the rotors with cold water right after a hard drive it can cause uneven cooling and warp them. @nancys90 does that match up with what you've seen or heard about?
