Just noticed a huge difference after swapping to manual transmission fluid in my old Honda
I have a 1991 Civic Si that I've been fixing up on the cheap. For the longest time, the shifting felt notchy and rough, especially when cold. Last weekend I drained the old gear oil and put in some Honda MTF from the dealer, cost me about $15. After a 30 minute drive around town, the shifter felt way smoother and the notchiness was pretty much gone. Has anyone else found that using the right fluid makes that big of a difference even in a beater project car?

Have you checked if your shifter bushings might be worn out too? The new fluid helps but those old rubber bushings could be hiding even more smoothness. Replacing them made a bigger difference on my Accord than the fluid swap alone.

haha yeah @derek939 at this point I'm half expecting to find a family of squirrels living in my shifter assembly when I finally pull it apart
